JOB DESCRIPTION

Shutterstock is growing by leaps and bounds and our use of data and AI is too. We are looking for a Senior Software Development Manager with a passion for both AI and experience building customer facing machine learning systems.

Generative AI is a key disruptive technology in many industries, including stock content. Shutterstock is embracing the capabilities of this transformative technology, and building a world-leading new product suite on a basis of ethical AI, which compensates artists whose work was used for model training.

We are looking for a leader to take charge of running our Generative team, tasked with scaling out our machine learning recommendation systems and automated moderation tools that support our web-scale low latency APIs, a massive content and data pipeline. In your role you will continue to build and help guide our strategic research partnerships in building foundational generative image, video and 3D models with some of the biggest players in the generative space.

You will be leading a team of experienced engineers and applied scientists focused on shipping research products with clear customer impact. You will be expected to help guide your team to strategically work backwards from the customer persona to drive as much impact from our state-of-the-art systems as possible.

The day to day:

  • Partner with technology and product leadership to define and drive product vision, strategy, and metrics, galvanizing teams to follow you.

  • Develop engineers and applied scientists at various career levels through coaching, mentoring, and management support

  • As a hands-on manager, participate in key technical and design discussions with your team members and other stakeholders

  • Build and maintain a modern serverless ML-powered GraphQL stack that will support rapid iteration and drive new feature delivery.

  • Day-to-day operational support of engineering infrastructure, products, and services, including on-call routine.

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • Experience in translating research into an application with a good balance between scientific rigor and continual agile delivery

  • Experience in leading a cross functional team of 7 or more engineers & scientists as a people manager

  • Postgraduate experience in STEM/Machine Learning or equivalent industry experience.

  • Experience with ML tools frameworks (Pytorch, tensorflow, Sagemaker, MLFlow, etc)

  • Experience in Python or another object-oriented language.

  • Distributed and low latency application architecture and microservices.

  • Strong experience with API design, including REST and GraphQL

  • Familiarity with modern ETL stack (e.g. Airflow, DBT, Snowflake)

  • Experience in a containerized cloud ecosystem (eg: Kubernetes, AWS)

  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure provisioning and integration patterns

Why Shutterstock:

  • You have a direct impact on the success of the company. Your team’s work matters and is critical to the evolution of our core business!

  • Executive leadership cares personally. They prioritize growth and planning your career path with your goals and passions in mind

  • Flexibility to work between home and office with everything you need to be successful in both
